About the artist: Soviet graphic artist, painter, poster artist. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1976). Honored Artist of Ukraine (1990).
Born in the village of Khanzhenkovo, in Ukraine (now Donetsk region). In 1939 he graduated from the Kiev Art Institute (KHI), where he studied at F. Krichevsky, O. Kokel, S. Grigoriev, S. Besedin, K. Yeleva and P. Sudarik. Member of the White-Finnish and World War II. Awarded with medals and orders. Awarded with medals and orders. Member of All-Union (since 1939) and Republican (since 1947) art exhibitions. Associate Professor (1952). Professor (1991).
He worked in the creative workshop "Agitplakat Don", collaborated with the publishing houses "Soviet artist" and Rostizdat. The author of the posters, "Lenin, the Great Path Illuminated to Us" (1969), "Komsomolets! Become the builder of Atommash! ” (1978; artists V. S. Boldyrev, S. I. Zisman, D. M. Paluy), “We are building the Volgodonsk Atommash - our peaceful atom will serve the good!” (1970s; together with V. S. Boldyrev, S. I. Zisman, D. M. Paluy).
Working at the Agitplakat Don Publishing House, the central themes of Vladimir Boldyrev were the angry scourging of various vices of Soviet society, as well as topical issues of world politics during the Cold War. Many of the artist's posters are dedicated to memorable dates of the country's history, the struggle for peace, and heroes of labor. Turned to an anti-religious topic; he is the author of such posters as “We do not want either the Garden of Eden or the mythical tabernacles of the saints, and we don’t need to pray to God - it all depends on us!” (1960–70s; poet D. Dolinsky).
