Oil painting on canvas. Francesco Solimena (Canale di Serino 1657-Naples 1747 Bari). Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well, biblical scene. 76x102. Beautiful contemporary setting.

"This beautiful painting is in good condition and depicts the scene when Christ met the Samaritan woman at the well, and I think I can assert it is a work of Francesco Solimena (Canale di Serino 1657 - Bar of Naples in 1747). "Solimena was a leading decorators active in Naples in the last decades of the '600 and the first half of 700, and among the most senior members of the late Baroque culture in Italy. He led the first painting experiences in his father's shop - Angelo Solimena was among the most intelligent followers of the Neapolitan naturalistic tradition, which had come developing in particular solutions especially Francesco Guarino - as documented by the earliest of his works known as the shovel with vision of St. Cyril of Alexandria in San Domenico in Solofra (a few kilometers from Avellino), also made their own in collaboration with his father. At this moment of apparent Guarini suggestions, born precisely from the teachings of Angelo, they may be dated, however, already signs of a first interest, even though marginal, for the early work by Luca Giordano, detectable for example in Dispute of Jesus among the doctors of Morano collection in Naples, without, in any case, these reflections the giordanesca nature, his inherent inclination, to obtain an antique effect and then substantially, tied to a naturalistic rendering of the images. During this first period of apprenticeship that would be produced was the painting in question, a claim supported by the fact that the Solimena resume and setting of our painting and gestures in other two paintings of which the first is found in Venice in the Galleries of 'Academy and depicts Rebecca and Eleazer. "Expertise by Andrea Morra.
