Oil painting on papier machè, allegedly by Sir Thomas Lawrence (Bristol 1769 - London 1830). Cupid with bow and arrow, 11x16. With 21x22 frame. Small fall color. Portraitist acclaimed and considered the most popular in Europe during his lifetime. He performed many works of great elegance, some of which are kept at Windsor Castle. With the British commercial expansion of the nineteenth century, the new enriched are captivated by the popular trend of having a portait painted and Sir Thomas Lawerence was a painter high in demand during the Giorgianana era. At just 20 years old he becomes a Royal Academy artist with the approval and protection of Joshua Reynolds.
