Oinochoe. Etruscan culture. 5th century BC.
Bronze.
Provenance: private collection J. Martà , Barcelona.
A 7x8 cm. area on the back of the vessel has been restored.
Measurements: 23 cm. high.
Utilitarian vessels for serving wine, such as this Etruscan oinochoe, were popular in the classical world from the early geometric period onwards. The word oinochoe comes from the ancient Greek "?????-????", the meaning of which alludes to the very function of the vessel: "wine-verter". It was used as a container for wine, passing it from the krater to the kylixs. This bronze oinochoe has a beautiful green patina with some bluish spots.
