Title:Ojibwa Region Fur Trade Bone Knife Copper Dag Dagger Sorby Buffalo Lance Influence Folk Art Americana

Description: These were carried by trappers and fur traders including in the Great Lakes region where they interacted and traded with Native Americans as well as British and Franch trade representatives. Many of these were made of Sheffield steel such as by I&H Sorby. However, this one is a fabulous make-do folk crafted copper example. Though Sheffield was also known for English copper, the metal knife blade source is unidentified. With a deer bone grip handle, this style of knife was a likely predecessor to the bowie knife.
