Okimono (1) - Ivory - Contadino con bimbi - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)
Beautiful okimono depicting a man coming back after collecting three baskets of fruit; two children are standing in front of him, trying to stop him, and he's giving them a large bunch of grapes Added to the exceptional quality of execution of all the smallest details (flower baskets and clothes are impeccable) is the excellent anatomical result of the hands and feet. The sculptor has managed to give a soul to his work through the happy expressions on the 2 children and the serene expression on the man. In very good overall condition, consistent with its age. Possibly from the Tokyo School. Signed Gyokudo in red lacquer under the base. The item was produced prior to 1947, and is therefore in compliance with European Union regulations on ivory trade. The item comes with a certificate of authenticity that will be sent to the buyer. Very important note for customers outside the EU: This lot CANNOT be sold outside the EU.
