Okimono - Elephant ivory - Exceptional and monumental - Fishermen with child - Signed Hōmin 宝民 - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912) Exceptional and monumental okimono carved from a large tusk tip of unbelievable size depicting two fishermen on a rock with their cormorants still with their prey in their beaks and the child above proudly showing the group of fish held in his hand, sitting on his shoulder. A sculpture of rare size, but with finely executed details such as the ropes, the net and the robes, all with a natural amber patina that changes with the different engraving techniques on the different surfaces, from the rock to the kimonos to the expressive faces and plumage of the cormorants. Signature engraved under the base Homin. 5. 7 kg. Excellent condition - see photos. The lot will be carefully packed and shipped within 1 or at most 2 business days from the day of payment. The shipping price includes delivery via UPS, TNT, DHL or SDA courier (depending on destination address) with full insurance and professional packaging. Original certificate compiled by Luca Mastromauro, an expert in Japanese art, registered with the Milan Chamber of Commerce (number: 2617) , which will be sent with the lot. Included with the item is a copy of the certificate of antiquity conforming with the international CITES regulations, issued by CESAR, a centre of Archeometric studies with offices in London, Milan and Rome.
