Okimono - Elephant ivory - Giovane Samurai Yoshitsune mentre suono il flauto - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)

Okimono in single block elephant ivory depicting Ushiwakamaru (Yoshitsune when he was a boy) playing a seranade with his flute. Excellent sculpture, finely carved and engraved, the young Samurai stands on high geta, dressed up and playing the flute, with his swords, the tanto and the katana held in the obi. Signature marked on red Yoshiaki lacquer. Yoshitsune was one of the greatest and most popular fighters of the 10th century and was one of the most famous samurai in Japan. There are many legends associated with him along with Benkei and the Tengu. Good condition - restoration on the hair - natural opening of the ivory with possible detachment of the piece on the base of the geta on the left foot - grouted opening on the head - see photos The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped within 1 or at most 2 business days from the day of payment. The shipping price includes delivery via UPS, TNT, DHL or SDA courier (depending on destination address) with full insurance and professional packaging. Original certificate compiled by Luca Mastromauro, an expert in Japanese art, registered with the Milan Chamber of Commerce (number: 2617) , which will be sent with the lot. Included with the item is a copy of the certificate of antiquity conforming with the international CITES regulations, issued by CESAR, a centre of Archaeometric studies with offices in London, Milan and Rome.
