Okimono - Elephant ivory - Sennin e asceta - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)

Okimono of incredible sculptural difficulty carved from a single large block of elephant ivory with a smiling Sennin holding a lotus blossom next to a vase with fruits and an Ascetic with a staff holding the sacred figure, both with the same gesture, surrounded by 12 toads watching them. A sculpture made entirely from the same block, one of the most complicated and rare in our collection, featuring the two important figures in Japanese culture, portrayed in a single okimono. Engraved signature: Gyokuzan. Weight: 240 g. In excellent condition. The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped within 1 or at most 2 business days from the day of payment.
