Okimono, Large hand carved okimono of Seiōbo 西王母 (Queen Mother of the West) and child (32 cm) - Marine ivory - Signed Sukemitsu 祐光 - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912) Beautifully carved ivory Okimono depicting a young mother with a delicate serene facial expression. Holding a bag of fruit with her right hand. Her young son sitting at her feet and playing with the fruit. The clothes engraved branches and geometrical patterns. Signed at the base with 3 character mark in a Tsuishu red lacquer reserve. Good condition, the forehead with an age related line (see photos) . H. 32 cm. Weight: 1005 grams.
