Okimono, signed Mitsu-Yuki - Elephant ivory - Fisherman catching a taî on a base - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)

Description The fisherman is standing, his right foot leaning on a rock, holding his bamboo fishing rod in his right hand while catching the taî hooked on the fishhook with his right hand. Note the right pectoral fin caught between the middle and index fingers. A landing net is slipped into the belt, to which a bag is attached on the back right. There is an empty hole on the left side of the bag showing a place where a missing object used to be attached. The fishing lline is made of two parts, ivory between the float up and the fish, cotton between the rod and the float up. Taî are omens of good fortune in the japanese tradition. Signed Mitsu-Yuki on the uderside of the base. .
