The top half of the figure of “LAMA or LAMSSU”, naked save for a broad necklace, her hair well combed with the thicker ends falling over her shoulders and back, her arms adorned by two bracelets, Her hands clasped over her belly, Lama is the Sumerian Goddess of intercession and protection. Also known as Lamassu by the Akkadians, she acted as an intermediary between people and the Gods. Lama was usually depicted in human form, often appearing on seals introducing a king to a God or Goddess. Size: 3. 8 cm L - 1 9/16 inches Material: Bronze Culture: Old Babylonian c. 1900-1800 B. C.
