In the crypt of the temple-monument "St. Alexander Nevsky", among the many masterpieces of medieval and Renaissance art, a special place is occupied by the icon from the Poganovsky Monastery "St. John the Theologian". The icon of the Mother of God Katafigi was commissioned by the founder of Elena Paleologus (daughter of despot Constantine Deian and wife of the Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus) , was donated to the monastery and is located in the monastery church. The original of the icon is from the 14th century.
