Old Ibeji couple - Wood - Nigeria
The presented couple shows two identical male twins. The carving is very delicate referring to a master carver. The figures were judged by the Yoruba expert Mr. Hans Witte and determined as Igbesa/ Awori. According to the Ibeji catalogue of Fausto Polo these figures are “scarce”. The shown figures were part of the famous Yoruba collection of Mrs Ursula van Heys- Voorhuis (formerly attached to the Africa museum of Nijmegen) .
