An early antique continental Allegorical oil painting on canvas. The work in the style of the Italian old masters. Depicting Jesus Christ Crucifixion on Golgotha, with the town of Jerusalem in the distance. No apparent signature. Presented in a period ornate gilt wood frame with the number 3 plaque at top center of frame. Provenance: This item originated from a distinguished auction event hosted by Sotheby's in October 1995, designated as LOT 305 at the Neues Schloss (New Castle), Baden-Baden, Germany. It was a part of the royal collection belonging to Margrave Max von Baden (1933-2022), a prominent figure in European aristocracy and the first cousin of Prince Charles III. This auction showcased a selection of valuable items from his esteemed collection.

Dimensions: 28.25 X 25.25 X 2.5 in.

Condition: Good to fair overall antique condition, displaying craquelure and age toning, with a scratch to canvas top right of image and a chip to paint at bottom center, along with other age-related surface wear. Frame having heavy storage wear to edges and corners and areas with loss. Estate fresh to the market.
