Old Western Prop Chinatown Mannequin Head & Hat
United States, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A plaster mannequin head wih Qing dynasty style hats, which was probably used as a prop / statue to re-create an old American western town at a privately run museum / tourist attraction. The plaster head is hollow and painted with a life-like expression and outfitted with a Chinese Qing Dynasty style close fitting cap with an attached yarn queue braid, and a conical straw hat; both hats are probably mid to late 20th century. This mannequin prop was aimed to help immerse visitors in a Chinatown / American frontier during the 19th century, particularly during the era of the Gold Rush. During the California Gold Rush Chinese immigrants played a significant role in the development of the region, often taking jobs as miners or railroad workers. Size w/ hat: 12" L x 14" W (30.5 cm x 35.6 cm)
