Inscribed on the reverse of the canvas in Russian and Cyrillic: “A copy, made after the original by Orest Adamovich Kiprenski, under whoes leadership I studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts. The drawing teacher at the Tambov District College, Egor Kurakin 1842”. Oil on canvas. 59×54 cm.

The original painting is dated 1817 and is owned by The Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.

Provenance: Acquired by the Danish owner's grand-uncle, who worked at the railroads in Russia before the revolution in 1917.

Condition Report:
Few scratches, some retouches and more crackles. Eventually one repair. Relined with a kind of plastic film.
