Franz Stegmann ( German, 1831 - 1892 ) original etching, "In the Church" printed on fine India paper & with full margins as created for "The Dusseldorf Gallery" in 1887 & published in the limited edition of forty impressions by Estes & Lauriat. A fine, original example of the 19th-century architectural art. 9 1/4 X 6 3/4. * loose in portfolio & has a slight crease towards the bottom margin. Note - Franz Stegmann was a student of the Academies of Brussels, Munich & Dusseldorf. During his career, Stegmann exhibited his views throughout Germany, particularly views of Nuremberg & Dusseldorf. Public museums in Brunswick, Cologne & Dusseldorf include examples of Stegmann's art in their permanent collections. During the later nineteenth century, the city of Dusseldorf grew to be one of the most important centers of painting & etching in all of Germany. Such fine artists as Franz Stegmann, Karl Hoff, Max Volkhart, Carl Irmer, Heinrich Deiters, von Eckenbrecher, Kroener & Jutz produced most of their best paintings & etchings while residing there. Â
