Offered here for your consideration is the original artwork By Michael Chiago for the 1986 O'Odham Tash event. This is the actual original painting that was used as the artwork for the program covers (one of which is included) and also all the posters, etc.. The artist and illustrator, Michael Chiago, was born in the Kohatk Village on the Tohono O’odham reservation in Arizona. Many of Chiago’s artworks provide a glimpse into the traditions of the O’odham, based on his recollections of growing up on the reservation,and stories told by tribal elders. The foreground of this large work features traditional O'odham pottery and weaving culminating in a centered depiction of the top half of a plaque woven in the traditional Man in the Maze pattern. At the top of the artwork Chiago depicts O'odham women collecting saguaro fruit. Very nice artwork by a native of the Sonoran Desert depicting traditional arts and practices of his people.
