Original German Work Book (Arbeitsbuch), 1936 | Issued in the Eberswalde District | Complete with...

[ translate ]

An official work book (Arbeitsbuch) of the first pattern, introduced under Third Reich-era law in February 1935, designed to monitor and administer the entire civilian and industrial workforce in preparation for the regime's rearmament and war efforts.

The book, bearing serial number 52/Fr/5525, was officially issued on 4 September 1936 by the Labor Office of the Eberswalde district (Arbeitsamt Eberswalde / Bad Freienwalde).

The book belongs to a German citizen named Richard Werner, born 2 February 1904, and documents his employment history, vocational training, and personal trajectory throughout the years of the regime.

The front and back covers are made of stiff brown fabric, embossed in classical Gothic lettering with the document's title alongside the "Reichsadler" emblem — the German eagle clutching a wreath with a swastika.

The inner page margins bear official security decorations incorporating small swastikas at each corner, part of the document-security measures of the period.

The interior of the book is filled with detailed period German handwriting (Sütterlin/Gothic script) and carries official ink stamps from labor offices.

Among other details, the book records the holder's place of residence in the Eberswalde area, his marital status (married, no minor children), his basic vocational training (Berufsausbildung) under occupational group 27, and detailed entries of the workplaces where he was employed over the years, including official employer certifications. The document serves as a living testament to the bureaucratic machinery of totalitarian control over the life of the ordinary citizen in Third Reich-era Germany.

The book is in good-plus condition. The cover is fully intact and stable, the original fabric spine holds the book block firmly, and all interior pages are complete, clean, with no torn or missing leaves and no tears. The ink stamps and handwriting are sharp, legible, and entirely clear, apart from light, natural abrasions at the edges of the outer cover consistent with authentic period use.
