Details: Original Modern Art SALVATORE GRIPPI OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS New York School Figurative Geometric Abstract Expressionist Modern Art Unique Artwork

This figurative geometric abstract expressionist oil painting on canvas was created by noted New York School artist Salvatore Grippi.

The piece measures approximately 50.25" x 50.25".

Worth Auctions is pleased to offer a number of rare works by Salvatore Grippi, an important New York School painter who worked and exhibited alongside the likes of de Kooning, Nevelson, and Kline during the heyday of the Abstract Expressionist movement in the 1950s. In 1968, Grippi established the art department at Ithaca College, where he taught until 1991. In 2011, he was honored with a solo retrospective at Cornell University's Johnson Museum of Art. This was the last time that Grippi's work was displayed in his hometown - until now. Worth Auctions is proud to offer Grippi’s works to the public. He was a significant figure in postwar abstraction and his work from this period has graced the walls of MoMA, the Whitney, and the Met but has seldom appeared at auction. It is fitting that these pieces are being shown and sold here in Ithaca, where Grippi taught and maintained a studio for most of his career, while they are also visible to collectors all over the world.
