Country of manufacture: France

In 2017, the French artist Rybalchenko created a series of Hermès carré Space Shopping au Faubourg.

Dmitry Rybalchenko is a dreamer, artist and designer. He designs worlds, images and objects that are a reflection of his dreams. Through his work, he invites others to join him, to become part of his dreams, to invite others to dream and to admire together an infinite world of possibilities. For Hermès, he created a series of classic 90x90 silk carré.

The legendary and rare Hermès carré, or as they are commonly called carré Hermès (fr.carre - square, quadrangular handkerchief), began to be produced in 1937. Classic silk Hermès carré is a quadrangle of 90 x 90 centimetres.

The factory that produces carrés is located in Lyon. It takes an average of 250 cocoons of Brazilian mulberry silkworms to make one classic 90 x 90 cm carré, and the work on each new piece takes from six months to two years, depending on complexity.

The pattern on each scarré is applied by hand. The more complicated the drawing, the more laborious the process of transferring the image on silk. Each colour requires a separate plate. The colour palette of carré is born in the process of mixing more than 75000 basic shades, vegetable dyes are mixed manually, each added colour dries within a month, the variant of drawing and final colour solution of each handkerchief is approved after detailed discussion.
