Born in the Andes Mountains of Colombia, South America to a family of eleven brothers and sisters, Orlando Botero became an abstract painter of symbolic works.
Though he had no formal artistic training, much of his education was acquired at a Jesuit boarding school. As an adult, he spent time in Laguna Beach, California, and moved to Hawaii in the late 1990s. He is a recipient of the White House Hispanic Heritage Award and is a Trustee of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.
