Ornate Greek Hellenistic Gilt Bronze Earrings (pr)
Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. late 4th to 1st century CE. A unique, ornate pair of gilt bronze earrings, each with a form reminiscent of a shark tooth, with raised baubles which may have once held inlays. A hinged loop, held in place by pins at either side, is at the top of each "tooth" form. Quality of gilt: 85% or equivalent to 20K+. Size of one: 1.05" W (2.7 cm); total weight of both: 5.7 grams
Provenance: ex-Suzanne Artuner, New Jersey, USA, 1998; gifted by mother Frances Artuner in 1995 who had owned them in Belgium since the 1960s
