Literature
Orthoceras fossil plates from Morocco represent an incredible window into Earth's ancient oceans, featuring extinct marine cephalopods preserved in a dense limestone or dolomite matrix sourced from the Atlas Mountains. These specimens date back roughly 350 to 400 million years to the Devonian period, long before the rise of the dinosaurs. Typically, artisans carefully cross-section and polish the front face of the matrix to a high gloss, revealing the intricate, mineral-filled internal chambers of the "straight horn" shells in stark white and gray against a deep black stone
