Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989), Osamu Tezuka - Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atomu) Shikishi Illustration Original Art and COA (1986)....
Osamu Tezuka - Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atomu) Shikishi Illustration Original Art and COA (1986). A particularly accomplished shikishi, presenting Astro Boy in full flight alongside Shunsaku Ban -- better known as Higeoyaji or Mustachio -- one of the most familiar members of Tezuka's recurring "Star System." The confident line, generous scale of the central figure, and unmistakable expression make this a notably complete and desirable depiction of Tezuka's signature hero, personally dated March 27, 1986. Mighty Atom, aka Astro Boy, known in Japan as Tetsuwan Atomu, first appeared as a supporting character in Ambassador Atom in 1951 before receiving his own series, Mighty Atom, the following year. The character became central to Tezuka's humanist vision and, through the landmark 1963 television adaptation, one of the foundational icons of modern manga and anime. Examples of Astro Boy with this degree of finish, presence and visual appeal are exceptional. Its importance is further strengthened by the accompanying Certificate of Registration issued by the Osamu Tezuka Works of Art Registration Meeting, formally recording the work as Atom and Higeoyaji and providing a particularly valuable level of documentation for an original Tezuka drawing. Marker on shikishi board with an image area of 10.75" x 9.5". Light toning with a few minor stains. In Excellent condition.
