Osamu Tezuka Midori no Hate - At the Edge of the Plant World Self-Portrait Illustration Original Art (Osamu Tezuka F.C. TOKYO, 1975-79). This finely rendered original places Osamu Tezuka's unmistakable self-portrait amid the dense, primeval vegetation of Midori no Hate — At the Edge of the Plant World. The story follows survivors of a devastated Earth who discover a verdant planet where plants can perceive human thoughts, assume familiar forms, and ultimately reveal a disturbing instinct for survival and propagation. In the accompanying Japanese text, Tezuka draws a direct parallel with Lost World, recalling that he had already explored the idea of plants evolving into conscious, rational higher beings in his landmark 1948 manga. Created for the publications of the Osamu Tezuka F.C. TOKYO during the second half of the 1970s, the illustration reflects the club's role in revisiting and documenting Tezuka's vast creative universe for its devoted readership. Far more than a casual caricature, this is a carefully composed, full-length portrait of the "God of Manga" within one of his own imaginary worlds. Self-portraits of Tezuka this complete and visually engaging are exceedingly rare on the market, giving the work both profound personal significance and considerable collector appeal. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 7.5" x 3.5". Plexiglas-front framed to 13" x 9.5". The art board is lightly toned, with faint stains at the bottom edge, and the panel is slightly wavy. The text is all paste-up, with whiteout used to blend it in. In Very Good condition.
