Oscar Bach Lamp

[ translate ]

21"H x 7 ½"W

Patinated and parcel gilt cast metal table lamp, the domed shade with a pierced band of crowned grotesque masks, grape clusters and vine scrolls over a mottled red ground, surmounted by a pierced coronet gallery and openwork finial. The shade carried on a reeded standard with octagonal drip pan and baluster knop, flanked by a pair of scrolled vine supports and slender twisted rods with cast finials, on a stepped circular base with gadrooned gilt gallery, the underside felted. Fitted for electricity.

Condition: Good. Complete and structurally sound; the shade seats securely and the frame stands true. Overall oxidized surface with scattered verdigris, most apparent on the dome, the shade rim and across the base. Gilding rubbed throughout with losses to the high points of the scrolled supports, the base gallery and the finial. Pierced band with light surface abrasions and rubbing to the red ground. Shade interior discolored and stained around the socket from heat, with accumulated dust and grime. Green felt to the base underside worn, stained, lifting at the edges with glue residue. Retains an early brown insulated cord and two-prong plug, the cord dry and scuffed; wiring untested and should be inspected or replaced before use. No maker's mark, stamp or label observed.
