Oscar Oestreicher – Dutch Polder Landscape
Oil on panel. Signed ‘Oskar Oestreicher’ in the lower right-hand corner. Depiction of a Dutch polder landscape with a windmill by a stream. Framed and sealed on the reverse with the original seal; the panel bears a handwritten dedication by Oestreicher: ‘Merry Christmas 1954! Oscar’. Sticker from the Eduard Müller framing shop in Freiburg. Oestreicher was an artist who rose to prominence during the Third Reich; his works were exhibited annually at the Great German Art Exhibition at the Haus der Deutschen Kunst in Munich. Like many artists of that era, he worked in the style of heroic realism, which was favoured by the Nazi regime. His best-known subjects were his maritime scenes and depictions of harbours. One of his works is now housed in the Lenbachhaus and the Kunstbau in Munich. Source: www.gdk-research.de
