[ translate ]

ÓSCAR TUSQUETS I BLANCA (Barcelona, 1941) for Casas.
Pair of "Varius" chairs.
Oval steel tube. Aluminium back and seat. Black leather armrests. Original green suede upholstery.
Casas edition, Barcelona, 1983. With label.
Upholstery in good condition. On one arm of the chair the leather has small marks. In good condition. Wear commensurate with age and use.
Measurements: 74 x 55 x 60 cm; 42 cm (seat height).

Designed by Tusquets in 1983 and produced by BD since 2003, the "Varius" is the benchmark chair in the contemporary history of Spanish design. A public and critical success from the very day it was born, it is the most recognized chair, the best-selling and the one that has best withstood the passage of time. It can be said that it has improved over the years, and is now one of the new design classics to be enjoyed by generations to come. It is inspired by the shape of a folded violin, which makes up the seat and backrest. The structure of the legs is an oval steel tube and the armrests are made of black leather.
Óscar Tusquets is an architect, painter and designer, trained at the Escuela de La Lonja in Barcelona and the ETSAB. In 1964 he founded Studio PER with Lluís Clotet, with whom he collaborated regularly until 1984. During this period he participated in the enlargement of the Faculty of Medicine in Barcelona (1980) and in the remodeling of the Palau de la Música Catalana (1982). In 1987 he teamed up with the architect Carlos Díaz, with whom he carried out projects in various countries, including Japan and Germany. He has been awarded the Delta de Oro del FAD prize on several occasions, and in 1987 he received the Sant Jordi Cross.
