Blue ink and Indian ink, washed on notepad paper with tooth edge. 9.5 x 13.0 cm (illustration), 17.0 x 13.0 cm (sheet). With this motive, executed in ink-veining, Schlemmer also takes up a similar study from the 'blue series' of 1931. The previous owner, Helmut Baumann (1904-1978), a teacher and artist in Goeppingen, whom Oskar Schlemmer was friends with, refers to the latter with the inscription: 'Prof. Oskar / Schlemmer / blaue Reihe (blue series)' "(Karin von Maur, July 2016)., Provenance: Estate Schlemmer; artist Helmut Baumann, Goeppingen; Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia.
In July 2016, this work was presented to Schlemmer expert Karin von Maur, who stated that the work belongs to the 'small format notebook series, which was realized in blue ink'. She also said: 'Schlemmer likes to use these most intimate works as gifts.'
For Karin von Maur the sheet is based on the often published motif of a profile head in ink.
