N. B. The Ottaviani family is a family of gold and silversmiths in Rome, who became famous for designing and manufacturing handmade jewelry. The founder of the family business, Alfredo Ottaviani, opened his first store in 1894 on the then very modern Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Rome. He was able to pass on his knowledge and enthusiasm for the profession to six of his eight children, who also opened their own stores.
In 1945, his daughter Jole started the shop at Ottaviani's current address in Via Alessandria. Her two sons and their children now continue the tradition and specialize in silver. For example, in 2006 they produced the medals for the Winter Olympics in Turin. "Omnia-sacra" are also a specialty of the Ottavianis.
Every year they present the Pope with a sacred image in silver during the "Christmas in the Vatican" concert, which is broadcast live on television.
