Ottimar Elliger ll The Younger (Hamburg Germany, 1666-1735) Oil painting on canvas, This unusual subject is titled "The Banquet of Cleopatra". This subject shows Cleopatra about to remove a pearl from her right ear. She is about place the royal pearl earring in a glass of wine. This action shows the sign of her indifference to wealth. The pearl will dissolve in the wine, which she drinks in honor of the late Anthony of Rome. A similar work is in display at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and Getty Museum. In overall very good condition with minor frame aging. Painting has monogram date 16" GL 68' on lower right. This masterwork measures 23 5/8" x 28 1/2"
