Ben H. Richman, businessman and philanthropist, was Chairman of I. Richman & Co., a scrap metal company, founded by his father. Chairman of the Creditors Committee that was involved in the reorganization of Jessop Steel Co, from 1948 to 1951. Under Mr. Richman's leadership, the committee revived the struggling steel company.
Mr. Richman was a director of Three Rivers Bank and Fortune National Corp, both in Pittsburgh, and was director of Washington Hospital for more than 20 years. He was a former director of the National Parkinson Foundation.
Mr. Richman, who marked his 80th birthday with the donation of a new Torah to Beth Israel Congregation in Washington, was instrumental in the building of the synagogue in 1954. He was the synagogue president for 25 years and later became president emeritus.
