Our Troops Bravely Advance to Free the South. ca. 1975.
"An armed soldier and tank are depicted advancing to seize the Presidential Palace and capture Saigon. This ensuing victory ended the Vietnam War. The Viet Cong soldier wears his FNL armband and his recycled parachute camouflage cape flows behind him. The flag of Communist South Vietnam is proudly displayed on the roof of the palace. The flatness of the shapes with a clear black outline and the use of two or three colors suggests this work is from woodblock printing, a long tradition in Vietnam. Frequently, traditional woodblock technique was employed and hand painted over. There were few printing presses in Hanoi during the war and a limited production of around 5,000 prints was all that could be generated" (Deborah Salter).
