Raised in São Paulo, Brazil, Modern artist Ozz Franca showed his artistic talent at an early age, and had his first solo exhibition at age eighteen. Although he painted a variety of subjects including seascapes, cityscapes, nudes, florals, and children, he is best known for his paintings of Native American women. After studying at the Fine Arts School in Sâo Paulo, he received a scholarship to study in the United States at the University of Utah. Franca then moved to Hollywood where he worked as a cartoon illustrator for Walt Disney. Some of his major projects include illustrations for Lady and the Tramp and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Many of Franca’s fine art paintings feature abstract geometric shapes and form, muted colors, and floating imagery that evokes a sense of mystery and ethereal qualities. Numerous politicians and celebrities have collected his work including Nelson Rockefeller, Frank Sinatra, Jackie Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Sammy Davis, Jr. among many others. - areas of visible discoloration and accretions to paint towards the upper-right and center-right regions of painting; light scuffing and accretions to paint throughout; minor indentations to canvas where the painting presses against the interior border of stretchers; discoloration to and gaps at the corners of linen spacers of frame; significant flaking and loss to paint of frame, likely due in part to intentional weathering and distress; abrasions, scratching, scuffing, discoloration, and loose debris to frame.
