P-Chodor Mafrash
mid 19th century, 40 x 83 cm, Central Asia, West Turkestan
The white field of this mafrash contains a panel decorated with seven double hooks at the top and bottom. It comprises a dense mosaic of minutely drawn rectangles and triangles arranged around three bold, vertical double crosses. A zig-zagging line constitutes the border design. The knotting structure and palette suggest that this is a weaving by the P-Chodor tribe.
RAGETH, JÜRG, Turkmenische Teppiche. Ein neuer Ansatz. Basel 2016, no. 119
Condition
Signs of age and wear, some missing sections probably due to moth damage. Damage to the upper right corner. No kilim back.
