PABLO PICASSO (1881 - 1973)
LE VISAGE ET LA COLOMBE DE LA PAIX

signed Picasso, dated 16.4.61 (upper right), dedicated Youri Gagarine (lower centre) and numbered III (lower left)
pencil on paper
Sheet: 33 by 41.7cm., 13 by 16⅜in.
Framed: 58.5 by 67.5cm., 23 by 26½in.
Drawn on 16th April 1961.

Claude Picasso has confirmed the authenticity of this work.

Condition Report:
Executed on cream wove paper, not laid down, attached to the mount in two places along the upper edge and floating in the over-mount. The upper edge is perforated and is uneven having been removed from a sketch book. There are two vertical repaired tears to the extreme upper edge (one is 4cm long and the other 1cm long) and a small horizontal repaired tear to the centre of the extreme right edge (1.5cm long). The sheet is slightly time-stained and there are a few very pale spots of foxing towards the upper right corner. There are a few flattened creases in places, including a diagonal one across the lower right corner. There are a few tiny accretions to the right of the dove's olive branch and some tape remnants to the verso from previous mounting, some of which show though the sheet. This work is in overall good condition.

Provenance:
Estate of the artist

Marina Picasso (the artist’s granddaughter; acquired from the above)
