PAIR OF AMLASH BURNISHED GREY-WARE VESSELS
Ca. 1200 - 800 BC. A pair of burnished grey-ware vessels comprising a stemmed goblet and a globular jar. The goblet has a deep, gently tapering bowl articulated by horizontal ribs and raised upon a tall, flaring pedestal foot. The larger vessel is formed with a rounded body, narrow foot and tall cylindrical neck encircled by multiple horizontal ridges. Both vessels display the dark monochrome surfaces and carefully burnished finish associated with the grey-ware pottery traditions of Iron Age Iran. Their contrasting forms suggest use within a related assemblage of drinking, serving and storage vessels. Size: 140-160mm x 100-120mm; Weight: 680g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Belgium; formerly in a German private collection before 2000.
