PAIR OF CYPRIOT POTTERY VESSELS
Ca. 750 - 400 BC. A tall jug and a rounded one-handled cup or small bowl form this group of two vessels, both made in pale buff pottery and now showing heavily worn surfaces. The jug has an ovoid body supported on a narrow foot and rising through a tall neck to a damaged pinched or cut-away mouth, with an arched handle connecting the rim and shoulder. The companion vessel is characterised by a globular body, open mouth, short upright rim and large loop handle. Faint dark and bluish traces across the surfaces may preserve degraded painted decoration, although later markings or deposits cannot be excluded from the photograph alone. The pale slip, prominent loop handles and simple rounded profiles suggest Cypriot White Painted or related Iron Age traditions. Size: 90-150mm x 75-140mm; Weight: 435g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Belgium; formerly in a German private collection before 2000.
