PAIR OF DUCKS AS PÂTÉ TUREENS
Künersberg, circa 1760, attributed to.
Faience decorated in overglaze enamels. The head and lightly modelled feathers forming the removable cover. Unmarked.
L 16.5 cm.
Cover of one duck associated from a contemporary tureen.
Provenance:
- The Collection of the late Count and Countess Guy de Boisrouvray, Sotheby’s New York auction, Oct. 27–28, 1989, Lot 314.
- Peter Ducret Collection, Kilchberg.
The brilliant color palette corresponds closely to that of various Künersberg faience wares, particularly a parrot perched above a Künersberg writing set in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum (inv. no. 71/489). P. Ducret also based his attribution to Künersberg on this comparison in correspondence with Rainer Rückert in 1997.
The duck model corresponds to an example in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, formerly in the Dr Paul Heiland Collection published in 1934 (inv. no. 34/383), now catalogued as Künersberg with a question mark.
Further examples were offered at Bonhams London, 14 November 2007, lot 96, and Sotheby’s New York, 18 April 2015, lot 190.
