PAIR OF MID-CENTURY MODERN STERLING SILVER TAZZA

[ translate ]

c. 1950, William De Matteo, Jensen-style
6"h; 6.75" diam.; 27 troy oz.
During WW II, the Danish retailer of Jensen silver, Frederik Lunning, commissioned de Matteo and Alphonse LaPaglia to make pieces in the style of Georg Jensen to sell in his Georg Jensen USA store on 5th Ave. in New York City. The designs were not exact copies of Jensen pieces but were close enough that an ordinary consumer might not have detected a difference. Eventually, a lawsuit ensued, and as a result, the New York shop discontinued its production. The quality of these Jensen-style designs and workmanship is equal to the Danish products and being rarer, they are highly collectable.
NOTE: Apologies, we cannot approve bidders during the auction.
Condition Report: Absence of a condition statement does not imply the lot is in perfect condition, free from flaws, restoration, or the effects of aging. Condition requests can be obtained via email or telephone to our gallery. Any condition statement given either verbally or written is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. CRN bears no responsibility for error or omission. All items are sold as is. All sales are final.
