PAIR OF POTTS & HUNT ENGLISH BELT PISTOLS

SERIAL NUMBER NA/NA BARREL 9"/9" CALIBER 577 /577 MANUFACTURE 1860'S (BOTH). Produced by Potts & Hunt of London, Famed provider of small arms to the Confederacy during the US Civil War. Pistols are Brass mounted with round iron barrels with London proofs. Swivel retained iron rammer. English walnut stocks with butt mounted swivel. Percussion locks are marked "POTTS & HUNT LONDON" with dual line border. Pistol are closely patterned after the Tower Sea Service pistol of the period but are much more refined with slimmer stock and a more defined grip. Potts & Hunt provided Enfield pattern Muskets to the Confederacy as well provided numerous small arms to Samuel Colts purchasing agent in London at the onset of the conflict. These percussion Belt pistols are of commercial quality and are considerably more refined than the English purchases pistols of the period. CONDITION. Both pistols remain in fine operational condition with operating locks and fine condition stocks. One pistol have a period shrinkage crack to rear of lock but remains solid. The smooth bores remain fine and the brass furniture has a mellow patina. The pistols remain untouched with crisp legends and proofs. ANTIQUE
