A pair of floor-standing globes, by John Cary (1755-1835), one terrestrial, one celestial, 1799-1819

Graveur, éditeur et marchand de cartes, John Cary (1755-1835) commence l'édition de globes en collaboration avec son frère William (1759-1825), fabricant d'instruments mathématiques, en 1791. Il continue de les éditer, à partir des années 1820, avec ses deux fils George et John, jusqu'au milieu du siècle quand ses plaques gravées sont acquises par G. F. Crutchley. Ce dernier les exploite jusqu'aux années 1870. D'une bonne facture, les globes de Cary étaient, de son vivant, à la pointe de la recherche en géographie et astronomie de position.
