"The Sussex ledger shows 263 copies sold by 30 August 1926 and out of print in 1931. Apparently Virginia Woolf chose the title for this poem" (Woolmer). The writer Nancy Cunard (1896-1965), political activist, devoted much of her life fighting racism and fascism. She was the muse of many 20th-century writers and artists, such as Aldous Huxley, Louis Aragon, Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce etc. - Ref.
