Parrots, particularly prized for their colorful plumage, have been kept as pets since Antiquity. As luxurious and exotic birds, they also enjoyed great popularity during the 18th century, leading to the production of trompe-l'oeil versions in porcelain and faience. Parrots were regarded, among other things, as symbols of good fortune and protection (see Helke-Schandelmeier 2025, pp. 89–90).
