Lot Essay
The present La Rattrapante is an impressive example of late twentieth-century complicated watchmaking, combining a triple calendar and moon-phase indication with a split-seconds chronograph, a mechanism widely regarded as one of the most challenging complications to construct and regulate. Allowing two events beginning simultaneously to be timed independently, the rattrapante mechanism requires an exceptional degree of mechanical complexity and precision.
Launched in the late 1990s, this fascinating neo-vintage creation combines its sophisticated mechanics with a distinctly classical aesthetic. The beautifully executed silvered dial provides an elegant backdrop for the numerous indications, while the finely grooved front and back bezels lend additional depth and character to the case. Powering the timepiece is a movement based on the celebrated Venus calibre 179, one of the most revered vintage split-seconds chronograph movements.
Produced as a limited edition of only 200 pieces, the present example is individually numbered 065, further enhancing the appeal of this highly complicated and distinctive neo-vintage wristwatch.
