PAVEL TCHELITCHEW | SEATED LOVERS

[ translate ]

Property from a Private Collection, New York
PAVEL TCHELITCHEW
1898 - 1957
SEATED LOVERS

bearing the initials aT on the reverse and a label signed by the artist and Tanner on the reverse of the backing board
sepia ink on paper
image: 25 by 17cm, 9¾ by 6¾in.
framed: 42 by 34cm, 16½ by 13½in.

Condition Report:
The work is executed on a sheet of notepaper, the upper edge is perforated and there are minor losses to the holes. Creasing is visible throughout the sheet and it is undulating along the left edge. It has discoloured in line with age and there are spots and smudges of surface dirt. There is the odd spot of incipient foxing visible in places. There is skinning to the paper surface in places but this is inherent to the artist's technique. Tanner's initials on the reverse are written in ballpoint pen and are just visible on the recto in the lower right corner. The sheet is attached to the mount with tape in two places at the top edge and in the centre of the bottom edge. Held behind glass in a decorative wooden frame.

Provenance:
Collection of Allen Tanner, New York

Aquired from the above by Richard Sisson of Grace Borgenicht Gallery, New York, 1966

Acquired from the estate of Richard Sisson by the present owner
