PELLO IRAZU (Andoáin, Guipúzcoa, 1963).
"One bellow".
Wooden construction and painting.
Measurements: 39 x 20 x 13.5 cm.
Pello Irazu is considered one of the key figures in the renewal of Basque sculpture in the 1980s. During the 20th century, the Basque school experienced a splendour and a resurgence of aesthetic forms, becoming a centre of great artistic interest thanks to sculptors such as Chillida and Oteiza. As we can see here, the echoes of their work can be seen in the work of numerous sculptors, painters and architects from the 1950s to the present day. Irazu entered the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, where he graduated with a degree in sculpture in 1986. He often works with the Soledad Lorenzo Gallery in Madrid and the John Weber Gallery in New York. His works form part of the collections of the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao, the Museo Reina Sofà a, the MACBA, the ARTIUM in Vitoria, the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego and the Yves Klein Foundation in Arizona, among others. In 1989 he moved to London and from 1990 to 1998 he lived in New York. He currently lives in Bilbao.
