The inverted bell top with handle and brass banding, over side panels framed in brass and a brass-bound plinth on brass block feet, the 17cms arched dial signed in a silvered arc (incorporating a strike/silent lever) framing the painted and engraved rolling moon over a wheatear border, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre, three apertures for moon's age, date and mock pendulum. The twin chain fusee movement with knopped pillars, now converted to deadbeat escapement, striking the hours on a bell (stand broken), and pull-repeating the quarters on a run of six bells and hammers. 51cms (20ins) high.
John Hodges was active at the Clements lane address in 1729 and moved to Exchange Alley in 1738.
